Maurice Renard (1875-1939) was one of the leading French science fiction writers of the first decades of the 20th century. Produktbeschreibung
Maurice Renard (1875-1939) was one of the leading French science fiction writers of the first decades of the 20th century. In his works, he did not limit himself to science fiction, but skillfully combined it with mysticism, gothic motifs, detective mysteries and adventure plots. His novels and short stories create a frightening and fascinating world where science borders on madness, and miracles can turn into nightmares. This edition presents three works by Renard, demonstrating the originality of his imagination. "The New Beast" (in the original "Doctor Lern, assistant of the Lord God") is one of the most sinister and unusual novels by the author. A scientist, striving to achieve power over the world, conducts terrible experiments on metempsychosis (the transmigration of souls through brain transplantation). However, his plan backfires: the brain of a mad genius, already enslaved by a German villain, ends up embedded in a car engine. The car turns into a living creature, subject to decay and rot, and the experiment gets out of control... "Monsieur Dupont's Holiday" is a fantastic story about the incredible resurrection of giant creatures from the Mesozoic era. The heroes encounter ancient monsters that come to life again, disrupting the natural course of history and threatening all of humanity. "The Motionless Journey" is a gripping adventure story in which antigravity, a fantastic phenomenon that changes the foundations of physics and ideas about space, occupies a central place. This collection introduces the reader to the world of Maurice Renard, where science becomes a dangerous game, the boundaries of the possible are blurred, and man faces his own fears of the unknown.
