Violet Augusta Mary Frederica Kennedy-Erskine was born on the 1st September 1863 at the House of Dun, near Montrose in Angus. The locality would be later inspiration for much of her writing.
She married an Irish Major in the British Army in 1894 and went with him to his posting to Mhow in India which resulted in her book 'Diaries and letters from India 1895-1900'.
A gifted poet much of her verse is in her native Angus dialect. As well as several poetry collections and short stories she wrote a family history and five novels.
Violet Jacob died of heart disease at Kirriemuir, in Angus on the 9th September 1946. She was 83.<
