Autorenporträt
Albert O. Wilkat, Retired PE, was born in Collinsville, Illinois, the son of Lithuanian Immigrants. He grew up during the Depression years, in St. Louis. After Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps. He was commissioned a 2nd. Lt. and received his Pilot's wings in March, 1944. He served in the China, Burma India Theater flying troops and supplies in the Burma combat zone and over the Hump to China. He flew 191 missions and received 3 Distinguished Flying Crosses. After the war, Al graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with an engineering degree, He worked in construction and finance until his retirement in 1990. He married Melba Heim, of Little Rock, and they settled in Webster Groves, Mo. They had four children, four grand children and two great grand children. They relocated to Plantation, Florida in 1974 where they still reside. He was an active member of the CBI Veterans association and remains active today.
