Produktbeschreibung
In "The Rebellion in the Cevennes," Ludwig Tieck immerses readers in the intricacies of 18th-century religious conflict set against the backdrop of the picturesque yet tumultuous Cevennes region in France. This historical novel deftly intertwines romance and adventure with profound philosophical musings, employing a lyrical prose style synonymous with the German Romantic movement. Tieck's narrative not only unfolds the story of the Huguenot insurgency but also explores the themes of faith, insurrection, and the human spirit's resilience, showcasing the conflict's moral complexities and its socio-political implications. Ludwig Tieck, a central figure in early German Romanticism, was deeply influenced by the tumultuous historical and cultural currents of his time. His experiences in critical literary circles and his interest in folklore and mysticism shaped his multidimensional characters and rich narratives. Tieck's engagement with Romantic ideals can be seen as a response to Enlightenment rationalism, seeking to elevate the mystical and emotional aspects of the human experience, which resonate profoundly in this work. This compelling novel is highly recommended for readers interested in historical fiction, religious studies, and the roots of Romantic literature. Tieck's blend of dramatic tension and philosophical depth invites readers to reflect on the nature of belief and rebellion, making this a vital addition to both literary and historical discourse.

Autorenporträt
Johann Ludwig Tieck (1773-1853) was a German poet, fiction writer, translator, and critic. He was one of the founding fathers of the Romantic movement in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Tieck's transition to Romanticism is seen in the series of plays and stories published under the title Volksmärchen von Peter Lebrecht (1797). More ambitious and on a wider canvas are the historical or semi-historical novels Dichterleben (1826), Der Aufruhr in den Cevennen (1826), and Der Tod des Dichters (1834). Tieck's Schriften appeared in twenty volumes (1828-1846), and his Gesammelte Novellen in twelve (1852-1854).
