Born in London to John Dixon Turner and Rose Janet Newmarch, she was a pivotal figure in introducing Russian classical music to English-speaking audiences at the beginning of the 20th century. Her seminal work, 'The Russian Opera' (1914), is a comprehensive exploration of the subject, offering in-depth analysis of Russian operatic traditions from the works of Glinka to Rimsky-Korsakov and Tchaikovsky.
