A mysterious note in his pocket leads him to Donal Gambrill, air ship captain and a man John fell in love with years ago.

Gambrill is convinced to fly John to the mystical site on the Totentanz, his dirigible, despite the lingering wounded feelings on both sides. During the journey, however, Blakeney and Gambrill find that their former attraction is still strong, even as each day brings Blakeney closer to his potential doom.

But if this last attempt works, they may have more time than either could ever imagine...
