Produktbeschreibung
The Sosa Model, the most recent book penned by Fabio Valenzuela Sosa, MD, reflects the authors multifaceted professional profile. Fabio uses his solid physics background to propose a new paradigm for determination of the doses used during radiosurgical procedures that are todays gold standard for the management of many partially resected intracranial tumors and of many others not amenable to surgical resection. Fabio formulates his model using a language devoid of unnecessary technical terminology; this stylistic approach allows him to make the radiosurgical concepts accessible to readers not specialized in medicine or physics. Inside The Sosa Model the readers will find an MRI brain atlas that can be used as reference by neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, medical students, and laymen interested in the topic of radiosurgery. This MRI brain atlas was built by Fabios brother, Santiago Valenzuela Sosa, MD, a distinguished Dominican neuroanatomist, neurosurgeon, and radiosurgeon. Fabio applies his new model for determining radiosurgical doses to real clinical cases described in detail using high-quality radiological studies. We can promise potential readers interested in the topic of radiosurgery that The Sosa Model will give them a novel and revolutionary perspective of this discipline and will put them in contact with the radiosurgery of the next generation.

Autorenporträt
Fabio Valenzuela Sosa was born in San Jose de los Llanos, a small village of Eastern Dominican Republic, in 1952. At an early age, Fabio moved with his family to San Juan de la Maguana, located at the center of the first European settlement in the Americas and known as the Dominican South's grain basket because of its rich agriculture, where he lived until he graduated from high school. Between seventeen and forty-four, Fabio developed an intense and extensive academic career that gave him a licensure in physics at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, a master in physics at the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, a fellowship in medical physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a master in political sciences at Pedro Henriquez Urena National University in Santo Domingo, and a doctorate in medicine at the Santo Domingo Institute of Technology. Fabio was a physics lecturer for twenty years at Pedro Henriquez Urena National University in Santo Domingo, where he was director of the physics department between 1990 and 1996, and a lecturer at the department of political sciences. He was pretty active in politics, being a member of the Dominican Liberation Party (DLP), founded by Juan Bosch, between 1978 and 1996. He was DLP vice-secretary of professional affairs between 1991 and 1996. In 1996, Fabio relocated to the United States, where he has resided since, with his wife and two daughters. He completed a five-year radiation oncology residency program at the University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio in 2001. Since he completed his specialty, he has worked as a radiation oncologist in clinics and hospitals in the states of Iowa, New York, Texas, and Wisconsin. He has worked during the last ten years in several Gamma Knife centers. Fabio is board certified as radiation oncologist by the American Board of Radiology (ABR).
