The Story of a Calico Clown is a children's book written by Laura Lee Hope. The book tells the story of a clown named Calico, who was made by a toy maker in his workshop. Calico is a happy clown with a bright red nose, colorful clothing, and a big smile. One day, he is taken to a toy store where he meets a group of other toys, including a ballerina, a sailor, and a fireman. Calico is excited to be part of a group and starts to play with the other toys. However, Calico soon realizes that he is different from the other toys. He cannot dance like the ballerina, fight fires like the fireman, or sail on the seas like the sailor. Feeling sad and useless, Calico runs away from the toy store and into the streets. He meets a little girl who takes him home and gives him a new purpose. She uses Calico to entertain her sick brother, and Calico discovers that he can make people happy just by being himself. Calico eventually returns to the toy store and is welcomed back by the other toys. They learn that each of them has a unique talent, and together they make a great team. The book teaches children the importance of self-acceptance and the value of being different.
