"The Story of the Caliph Stork" is a work by the German writer and short story writer W. Gauff (1802-1827). This tale, published in 1826, is permeated with oriental motifs. This is what makes it extraordinary and exciting. As in many of the author's fairy tales, appearance is only a shell that hides the essence of a person. In "The Tale of the Caliph the Stork" a symbol is used: the caliph and his vizier are turned into a stork, and the princess is hidden behind the owl. The theme of love is the main one in the fairy tale. Gauff also wrote the following works: "The Tale of the Imaginary Prince", "The Sheikh of Alexandria and His Slaves", "The Monkey Man", "Almansor's Tale", "The Rescue of Fatma".
