Daughter of Lord and Lady Rosemond, Megan attempts to abide by her parents' uncouth plan of finding a husband by trapping him. However, if she doesn't go along with the entrapment, she and her family will be kicked out on the streets to live like paupers. She flees into the face of a raging storm, but a falling tree limb renders her unconscious. Instead of trapping a duke in the woodman's cottage as designed, Megan finds herself in a compromising position with Edmund Knight, a bitter rival of her father's.
Edmund Knight, the ton's untitled rogue, is seeking revenge. His target's daughter unknowingly falls right into his hands. He takes advantage of her innocence and tries to seduce her, even while wondering what her cheating father wants from him. Lord Rosemond already stole the deed to Edmund's goldmine in North Wales, and now his daughter appears to desire something from him as well. The strong attraction between him and Megan is distracting, but he remains true to his goal of getting back his treasure.
Tired of the games her father keeps playing to win her a wealthy husband, Megan creates games of her own. She wants Edmund and suspects that he wants her, just as much. If she seduces him, he will have no other choice but to marry her. Once that is accomplished, she will be free of her uncaring parents and be able to live a life of happiness.
Or will she?
