A veteran international journalist, Joseph Harriss studied French and international relations at the Sorbonne and Institut d'Etudes Politiques before joining Time magazine to report from Paris, Algiers, and Brussels. He later served as a roving correspondent covering Western Europe for the European Bureau of Reader's Digest. His articles and columns have appeared in many newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, The Dallas Morning News, Smithsonian, and The American Spectator. He lives in Paris.
