Mitchell Newton-Matza received his PhD in history from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. He has taught at several colleges in the Chicago and Washington, DC, areas. He is the editor and chief contributor to the book Jazz Age: People and Perspectives, (ABC-CLIO, 2009), a work that has received excellent reviews. He contributed two chapters to the Railroads volume in the nine-volume series, The Industrial Revolution in America (ABC-CLIO, 2005). His latest works are Intelligent and Honest Radicals: The Chicago Federation of Labor and the Politics of Progression (Lexington Books) and as editor/contributor of Disasters and Tragic Events: An Encyclopedia of Catastrophes in American History (ABC-CLIO), which were both released in 2014. In addition to his books and book chapters, he is also the author of over thirty-five reference and encyclopedia pieces. He currently resides in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and works at the Denver Art Museum.
