When I re-read this book, twenty-four years after the publication of its first edition, I remembered what some of its readers described as populist and that it is an attempt to undermine the most common values of the Arabs, namely the value of generosity, and therefore I was keen in the introduction to the third edition to emphasize that the analysis of discourse is not concerned with proving or removing a characteristic, but rather focusing its attention on the roots behind the values that that discourse establishes, the roots that remove from values their metaphysical dimension and reveal the human dimension that devolves Him.…mehr
