Autorenporträt
Joseph Marie Eugène Sue (1804 -1857) was a bestselling French novelist. He was the author of Mysteries of Paris (which was banned in France on its publication) and The Seven Cardinal Sins. His Mathilde (1841) contains the first known expression of the popular proverb "La vengeance se mange très-bien froide," translated in English as "Revenge is a dish best served cold." It is also rumored that Sue had a novel bound in the skin of a woman who loved him.
