I was able to associate some of the William Henry Jackson's photographs with Ted's references to Jackson taking the photograph. Ted named some of the lesser geysers and his name appears on numerous maps of the Yellowstone Basin.
The original diary is at Yellowstone. His journey began south of Jackson Hole and he passed the Grand Tetons on his way to Yellowstone.
He later homesteaded outside of Red Lodge with Ginnie, one of the first settlor women to come to that area. Apparently, Ginnie asked Ted what he named after her. Ted then told her that he named Jenny Lake at Grand Teton NP after her. It's a story that he stuck to all his life. My Mom believed it all of hers.
The lake was named after "Beaver Dick" Leigh's wife.
