Shep Foster is cyber security analyst for the NSA. His job is to hack a white supremacist group, the Aryan Alliance, and discover the source and purpose of their funds before they commit a deadly act of terrorism. Shep is good at his job. He is a logical man. His faith in reason becomes shattered when he receives a blow to the head and begins to have frightening, realistic dreams, as vivid as anything he's ever experienced. At first, he tries to dismiss them as products of his sleeping mind, but lasting injuries that he incurs during these nightmares cause him to reconsider this assumption. Every dream begins with an ancient weaver, working at her loom. She forces him to accept difficult tasks, and they challenge him to the limits of his ability and endurance. She tells him there is a pattern to the dreams, and he must learn what it is and how it matters to his so-called perfect life. There is only one person Shep trusts well enough to discuss his unusual situation- Lacey, his stepdaughter. Together, they try to solve the puzzle the weaver has presented to Shep, but there are too many pieces, too many factors. There is nothing logical about his encounters with the weaver. She can't possibly exist. The dreams can't possibly be real. When he awakens one morning with a wound on his forearm, he begins to question his sanity. The weaver demands that he question everything. Shep and Lacey believe that his assignments from the NSA and the weaver may be related, but how? Not only must Shep figure out what destructive act the white supremacists are planning, he must also decipher the overall pattern of the dreams before the last one ends or he will become trapped in the weaver's realm forever.
