One day, she and her mother return from playing games to find her father looking a bit ruffled. When they ask him what the matter is, he tells them that he needs more feathers to complete the nest he is building. Wendy's mother asks her to go and ask the other birds if they have any feathers they can spare.
Wendy approaches Hildah the hummingbird, but she refuses to help, telling Wendy to go away because she is busy. Wendy then tries Patty the pigeon, who, luckily, is only too happy to help.
The next day, something unexpected happens and Wendy is faced with having to make a choice. Will she be helpful like Patty the pigeon, or will she hold a grudge and behave like the unhelpful Hildah the hummingbird?
