A British musician, fresh from achieving chart success in London, now attempts to re-create this stunt in New York city. But right from the kick off, everything is against him. He starts a club in an area packed with mafia, punk rockers and street kids. However he soon hardens up, and begins to make good. Max has a tough, Viking-like musical friend named Leo, newly arrived from Russia with an entire family band in tow. The two hit it off, and play a series of gigs where the music involves experimental chants and ethnic world-beat rhythms. This outfit is so attactive, effective, yet outside the box, that fame is instant and immediate. Meanwhile, at a gig, Serge, the ten year old child drummer son of Leo, has been recognised by a Shiva priest as semi-divine, and the one they have been waiting for, with all the various, astonishing implications one would expect. Yet America's homeless problem is now tearing the nation apart. Leo seizes on this chance to lead an enormous parade of homeless demonstrators to the Capitol building, where the band then play a concert to prevent further violence breaking out. The resulting press sensation creates yet more triumphs for the band who now embark on a national tour, but the most extraordinary events are yet to come
