Autorenporträt
Igor Lander was born in 1957 and lives and works in Odessa. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics, is a retired Lieutenant Colonel, a member of the International Association of Veterans of Anti-Terror Units "Alpha," and a member of the International Police Association. In 2020, he graduated with honors from the Leiden University course "Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism: Comparing Theory and Practice."

A Ukrainian historian and writer, he is #1 researcher in the history of special services. He has authored a number of books on this subject, among which the three-volume study "Clandestine Wars. The History of Special Services" stands out, having been named the Book of the Year in Ukraine in the "Research Literature" category in 2007. He is also the author of the studies "The Miscalculation of 'Zeppelin'. The Shilo Tavrin Case," "The Attempt on Stalin's Life," and "British Sabotage Operations." Currently, he has begun and is continuing (with two volumes published already) the publication of the fundamental five-volume monograph "Wars in the Labyrinths. The History of Special Services 1919 - 1945." In addition to separate publications, his most well-known publications in periodicals include: "The Dutch Sieve of the Abwehr," "The Operational Bodies of the 'Manhattan Project'," "The Radio Intelligence of the Kuomintang," "The Black Secret Services of the Weimar Republic," "Mexico in the Nets of the Abwehr," and others.

In 2018, while not interrupting his research activities in the field of the history of special services, the author turned to writing a feature film screenplay on a related theme, "The 14th Directorate," which was completed by early 2022 and nominated for a grant from the Ukrainian Film Fund. Unfortunately, the large-scale attack of the Russian Federation on Ukraine excluded any possibility of its filming, and the screenplay was reworked into the novel "The World of the Departed," published in Odessa in 2024.
