Mrs. Royce (soft, serious and eminently maternal), consults Dr. Despard about her teen daughter Celia's increasing headstrong opinions and rude behavior towards her mother. The doctor agrees to join the family, and their German governess, for a weekend in the country to observe the young lady. His findings are surprising....Interesting that a book written in 1914 deals with issues of wandering attention and lack of immediate presence that sounds like it was taken straight out of out smart phone debate. A delightful, quick read. (Goodreads)
