World Wars tend to make young people grow up rather fast. The reality of death and destruction, responsibilities at home and abroad, all account for resilience and a strong sense of duty. But that didn't stop the young people from dreaming, nor did it stop them from considering the ethics of life. Noel Rangott grew up in the outskirts of Melbourne, she watched as the world turned. The old ways of the bush were dying out along with her childhood, she was growing up in the 1940s into a world that was tearing apart. Like the other young people of her time, she was dutiful and worked hard. She assisted her divorced mother, was passionately loyal and protective of her younger brother, and she dreamed of wonders and of life in grace.
