Foundling Peter Tobin lived through a vanished age, a time when the wide Australian outback was opening up to the force of steel rails, steam power, visionary civic builders and the power of determined men and their horses.
In the remote outback of late 19th century Australia, Peter makes his own way in the world, from drover, sheep shearer and horse breaker training horses for the South African War, to wealthy man of the land.

Autorenporträt
Clive Thomas, who worked the land for half a century, spent his childhood years amongst the last of these rich characters, the Australian Bushmen. He wove their campfire yarns into the tumultuous life story of Peter Tobin, covering the end the 19th century to the end of World War II. He's written the book's sequel, covering 1948 to the 1970s. "In 2006 after I retired from being what you call a rancher and we call a 'grazier,' my wife Katherine and I moved from Forbes, an inland town in New South Wales like Kangamite, (the town in the book) to the seaside."
