The Blartog family were not your typical nuclear clan. Tom, Harriet, and their teenage son Dick hailed from the planet Zygron in the Andromeda galaxy, where triped life forms who were shapeshifters with bulbous heads and tentacle appendages were the norm. After a rather tumultuous first galactic vacation to Earth a few years prior, they decided it was time to expand their horizons once more and experience the varied holiday traditions across the cosmos.

As they stepped out of their spaceship onto the bustling streets of Xentari Prime, Dick's eyes widened in wonder at the sights and sounds surrounding him. The city was a dazzling array of colors, with neon signs flashing in alien languages and exotic creatures gliding through the air on shimmering wings.

Harriet, with her tentacles quivering with excitement, turned to her family and said, "Isn't this just amazing? I can't wait to try all the different foods and experience the festivals they have here!"

Tom, his bulbous head nodding in agreement, replied, "Yes, and I heard they have a tradition where you can exchange gifts with strangers as a sign of goodwill. It's called the Festival of Giving. We should definitely take part in that!"

I was born in England, but have lived in Southern California for many years. I m now retired and live in the Pacific NW in a little seaside city amongst the giant redwoods and wonderful harbor, almost at the Oregon border. My husband and I have one cat, called Midnight and she is featured in two of my latest Sci-Fi short stories. I love Science Fiction, animals, and trying to help others.
