Edith Nesbit was an English author and poet, born in Kennington Lane in Kennington, Surrey. She created an innovative body of work that combined realistic, contemporary children in real-world settings with magical objects, adventures, and sometimes travel to fantastic worlds. Among Nesbit's best-known books are The Story of the Treasure Seekers, The Wouldbegoods, and The Railway Children. Nesbit also wrote stories for adults and made wonderful adaptations of Shakespeare's drama.
