About Traversing the Circle Teeming with ever-changing and incalculable variety of life, we are - with one exception - merely observers of the experience and stories of Earth's many creatures. About Traversing the Circle Teeming with ever-changing and incalculable variety of life, we are - with one exception - merely observers of the experience and stories of Earth's many creatures. Fascinated? Always, but as we share no common mode of communication, our understanding of their world, their cultures, is limited to what we can garner by spying. Like children, with noses pressed against the glass of a pet store display, we are no closer to knowing, or sharing the inner circle of another species than when our distant ancestors drew images of them on cave walls. We are - have always been - outsiders. What would it be like to find yourself occupying the forms of different animals, while retaining your own, human mind - less the memories of that life? Caught in a cycle of reincarnation, Michael Mullaney lives and learns to appreciate the challenges of trying to adapt and survive in the wilderness without the benefit of instinct. This, while struggling to recall his human past and comprehend the reason for his bizarre, but amazing journey. Thrust into places, situations, and a vantage that seems no human is privy to, the man, who was once an inventor and engineer, marvels at the brilliance and elegant design of nature's countless solutions. Along the way, his experiences inspire a profound respect for the courage, dedication, and tenderness of animal parents and families. As flashbacks of his colorful and triumphant human existence return - revealing glimpses of his own hard-won bonds with friends and family - he begins to piece together answers to questions greater than he could have imagined.
