Banerjee did his M.Sc. in Anthropology from the University of Delhi and Ph.D. from the Panjab University, Chandigarh. His interest in Tribal Anthropology and Social Demography is well-known in academic circles. He also specialises in Socialisation studies and Medical Social Anthropology. He is the author of Socialisation : An Ethnic Study (1986), Child Development and Socialisation (1987) and Folk illness and Ethnomedicine (1988). He has contributed several research articles and papers in learned and professional journals. He is a life-member of Indian Anthropological Association, Delhi. For some time Dr. Banerjee assisted Prof. Charles Leslie in his research project in Varanasi. Later he was associated with research and teaching work in the Department of Anthropology, University of Delhi. He was awarded U.G.C. National Fellowship for doing research work (1973-76). Since 1977, he is teaching Demography and pursuing research at the Department of Anthropology, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Miss Kiran Bhatia did her M.Sc. in Anthropology from the Department of Anthropology, Panjab University. Presently she is engaged in research on rural and Urban women of Haryana.
