The ship's designer, Joshua Herod, was deemed so indispensable for his engineering skills that he was given life prolonging drugs in order to continue his work. He is now approaching 200 years old. Now, a group of young astronauts has been chosen to pilot the Eagle. Among them, a brilliant, young space pilot named Brody Rudolf, who was orphaned during World War III when his mother died in childbirth and his father, a war hero, was killed in the battle for the Pacific. Nevertheless, there are those who believe mankind will only ruin what it touches and should stay and die out along with Earth's demise. They are led by a man of unspeakable cruelty and malice. His name is Khagan. He too has been injected with life prolonging drugs, a formula stolen from the Americans. In an attempt on Joshua's life, Kagan killed Joshua's wife and son, many decades ago, but Kagan and his minions will not stop until he has killed Joshua and sabotaged the effort to build the Eagle.
