A man determined to defend his country . . .

Italian-American Jimmy Barbato was born and raised in the small town of LaFollette, Tennessee. When the second world war started, he wanted to defend his country by joining the Army. His military career led him to be a part of the 34th Infantry division in Caserta Province, Italy fighting in the battle of Monte Cassino. The team's mission was to scout and report on groups of partisans. When his patrol fights their way into a death trap, Jimmy is critically injured. He is unaware that he's being taken to a local Italian woman's home to be cared for in hopes that he will be able to recover from his injuries.

A woman intent on surviving by any means . . .

At the age of twenty-five, Maria Cristina Ciervo found herself widowed and caring for an eleven-month-old baby. She still mourns the loss of her husband, Ettore Massaro, who got caught up in the partisan war against the German occupiers and died for his strong beliefs. To complicate matters, she also has the responsibility of caring for an injured American soldier.

A lie is born . . .

Miraculously, Maria Cristina's care saves the soldier's life. As she gazes into his green eyes and cares for his broken body, she grows close to her patient. When he awakes, she discovers that he has no memory of who he is, or what has happened to him. She devises a plan to ensure that he stays in her life by convincing him that he is her husband, Ettore Massaro.

The truth has a way of making its way to the surface . . .

Will Maria Cristina be able to keep up the lie conceived of necessity to make the soldier believe he is her husband? Or will the day come when her deception comes to light? If the truth is set free, will the soldier stay with Maria or find his way back to his home and his real family?

Autorenporträt
D GUY (Douglas Joe Guy,) has a fascinating background. Joe is from the small town of LaFollette, nestled in the beautiful mountains of East Tennessee. Joe is a military veteran with over twenty years in the U.S. Navy. Thirteen of these years in the Navy were spent on sea duty.

Joe likes to say there are two types of stories in the Navy. One type is called a "sea story," and these stories may even have a touch of truth to them. The other type of story always start out with the phrase, "Now this is no s**t ...." Naturally, true stories such as these became known as "no s****ers."

Joe read hundreds and perhaps thousands of book while at sea and from every genre imaginable. Combine that with the wealth of "sea stories" and "no s****ers" from his days in the Navy, and he has a lot of material to work with. Many of these tales were funny, some were tragic, others were love stories, and finally, some were simply preposterous. After retiring, Joe needed a way to get out from under his wife's feet. Therefore, he decided to write a book.

"One of the things I learned early on from information available from books, on writer's sites on the web, and from YouTube videos, is that a person should write about what they know. I felt that I knew 3 things: First, I know East Tennessee in the 40's, 50's, and 60's. The second thing I knew was the military. I retired as a Navy CPO. The third thing I know is life in Southern Italy in the 60's, 70's and 80's. One or more of these three topics are found in all of my stories.

I live with the love of my life in East Tennessee, along with three cats (all with Italian names). I also have three (sometimes) adult children, and I have five granddaughters (all of which are smart and beautiful)."

I write a series called "The LaFollette Chronicles. There are 26 books in the series to date. They are fictional stories that take place in and around a small town in East Tennessee and/or Southern Italy The time frames for the stories are usually in the first seventy or so years of the last century.

I write about life in those years and people in situations they had not planned on. No matter the time or the locale, the genre remains "Romance."
