In western society, patients are too often passive recipients of health and welfare provision from the cradle to the grave. They just follow prescribed treatments following a diagnosis by a doctor or therapist. This book gives examples of intervention provided by one therapist in response to the identified needs of the patients themselves. In other words, treatment was turned on its head. The patient becomes responsible. Intervention is based on the idea that a commitment is reached whereby both the patient and therapist agree to work together to resolve the identified problem and address the underlying psychopathology together. A process of discovery to 'Know Thyself'. The involvement of the patients in the process is that they become active and responsible for not only their recovery but to ultimately thrive. The therapist must provide expertise by way of experience, knowledge and understanding the personality background and proclivities of each patient. Using insight, common sense and confrontation, the goal is to assist in restoring health but more importantly, improving the quality of life of the patient following the experience. Changing their trajectory from being fearful, pessimistic and vulnerable to being secure, optimistic, excited and resilient. Stronger to encounter the future with purposefulness, not trepidation.
