Everyone has a mask they wear, and everyone has a story to tell. Though some are considerably darker than others. This is displayed perfectly in the tragic, yet inspiring book, "Unspoken". Everyone has a mask they wear, and everyone has a story to tell. Though some are considerably darker than others. This is displayed perfectly in the tragic, yet inspiring book, "Unspoken". Author, Robina Ehana, regales her audience with the shocking and heartbreaking experience that is being violated at a young age by someone very close. She illuminates the often hidden dynamics of a toxic and abusive family unit. And she does so all whilst reminding the reader that the truth is not always what it seems, and that those closest to you can be hiding a dark secret. This book explores the fear that often comes with being assaulted and sexually abused; fears of not being believed, of being stigmatized and ostracized by society. It also shows the incredible journey of moving on from such events, and living life as a survivor. Robina does an immaculate job of describing the façade she wore, the trauma she faced, and the eventual peace she attained. For those looking for a fast-paced and intriguing read that not only tells a story but offers insight on one of the darkest problems facing society, this is the perfect book to dive into.
