The content is very serious subject matter about an ancient pandemic, loving relationships, Christian persecution, suffering, and death. It also focuses heavily on the suffering of Roman soldiers and the social evil of that time period of class divisions. It includes Biblical references and is influenced by the author's life experience of having lived over eleven years in Britain. A tragedy filled with hope and redemption, it raises questions and inspires research.
