Autorenporträt
Author Ercell H. Hoffman was born in Cotton Valley, Louisiana, the seventh of eight children. Hers was a childhood mixed with creativity, abuse, abandonment, and poverty. Rather than focus on these things as negatives, Hoffman says, "I choose to see my history in terms of how it has helped to transform me into a better person, one who is more sensitive to and empathic toward other human beings who have had similar experiences."Hoffman entered Compton Community College before enrolling at California State University, Long Beach, to complete an undergraduate degree in journalism. She received her bachelor's degree and then a master's degree in public administration. She went on to receive a master's degree in education with an emphasis on counseling at California State University at Dominguez Hills and a master's degree in clinical psychology at Pepperdine University. She has written articles for the Los Angeles Herald Examiner, Los Angeles Times, the Long Beach Press-Telegram and the Los Angeles Sentinel. Her first novel, The Acknowledgement, was published in 1978.
