Valerian Petrovych Pidmohylnyi is a Ukrainian writer and translator, one of the most prominent writers of the Ukrainian "Shooted Revival", a victim of Stalin's repressions. The personality of Dmytro Yavornytskyi had a considerable influence on Pidmohylnyi. In the sense of the word, Pidmohylnyi considered Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi to be his spiritual mentor. Podmohylynyi was a pioneer of new themes and meanings in Ukrainian literature. Thus, in the novel "The City", in contrast to the traditional peasant and social themes, the emphasis is shifted to urban problems, and the conflict unfolds between people with different worldviews. "The City" is considered to be the first urban novel in Ukrainian literature, with new characters, issues and narrative style. And the novel "A Little Drama" is a model not only of urban, but primarily of intellectual prose. The novel is interesting not only as a psychological slice of life in the Soviet system of the 1920s, critics have drawn attention to the pronounced psychoanalytic and existential aspects of this work.
