Angus feels torn between honoring his friendship with Jude and following his own truth, which is simply that he loves Jude. But to tell him would cause a rift to form between them and possibly end their friendship, and that almost seems the worst of the outcomes. He would rather have some pieces of Jude to hold onto rather than no pieces at all.
But as the old adage goes, all good things must come to an end. The question is: will it end like gentle velvet, or like choking vice?
