Produktbeschreibung
Marie Corelli'Äôs "Vendetta" intricately weaves themes of love, betrayal, and revenge against a backdrop of late Victorian society. The narrative unfolds through the tragic story of its protagonist, who seeks to reclaim honor after a deep personal loss. Corelli'Äôs writing is characterized by lush, evocative language and a melodramatic tone, reflecting the sensational literature of her time, which often explored the darker sides of human emotion. This novel not only addresses the moral dilemmas faced by its characters but also critiques the societal norms that govern their lives, making it a pertinent study of gender and class struggles in the Victorian era. As one of the most popular authors of her time, Marie Corelli'Äôs life experiences, including her unconventional views on love and society, profoundly influenced her work. Born to a poor, artistic family in London, she faced the constraints of societal expectations and used her pen to challenge these limitations. Her unique perspective, combined with her prolific writing career, allowed her to become a spokesperson for the new feminine ideals emerging during her time, infusing her narratives with complex female characters and emotional resonance. "Vendetta" is a compelling read that offers not just an exhilarating plot but also a deep exploration of the human condition and societal expectations. Readers who appreciate rich, character-driven stories with a touch of the gothic will find Corelli'Äôs work both captivating and thought-provoking. This novel invites you to ponder the intricacies of love and revenge, making it an essential addition to any literary collection.

Autorenporträt
Marie Corelli can be considered the best-selling author of the Victorian era. She was so renowned that calendars were sold with citations from her books, and a series of postcards representing her could be purchased by her devoted readership. Everybody read Corelli's books, from the most basic shopgirl to Oscar Wilde and Queen Victoria herself. A Romance of Two Worlds, her first book, was distributed in 1886, and it turned her into a best-selling author in England and one of the favourites of Queen Victoria herself, who ended up ordering the complete collection of Marie's books. Despite the severe criticism, her books often managed to break sales records. Marie was the only writer asked to attend the coronation of Edward VII. Marie Corelli's books are inspired, magical, and philosophical. She volunteered to cure the universe's social ills. Among her best works are Barabbas (1893), Thelma (1887), The Expert Christian (1900), Wormwood (1890), The Mystery Power (1921), The Distresses of Satan (1895), The Existence Never-ending (1911), and Transient Power (1902). After World War I, her books were viewed as obsolete, and both interest and sales declined. She passed away in 1924.
