He is writing a journal the day before he is to be executed for his crimes. The journal is his means of convincing everyone who reads it that he is not and never was a mad man. He is simply a man obsessed with large breasts who is being tortured and driven to the brink of sanity by things that are out of his control.
Knight adds a twist in the way he uses the black cat and the Raven to enhance the story.
Is Lenore a woman sent from the heavens or something else?
Two policemen who do not believe his story but cannot find evidence of a crime.

I forgot about the triple scoop hot fudge brownie sundae and walked over to introduce myself. I couldn't help but stare into those deep something color eyes.
"Are you staring at my breasts?" she asked.
