Produktbeschreibung
In 'VINTAGE BRITISH MYSTERIES - 6 Intriguing Brainteasers in One Premium Edition,' E. W. Hornung weaves a tapestry of suspense and human drama set against the backdrop of late-Victorian and Edwardian England. These stories showcase Hornung's masterful handling of narrative form and his acute understanding of the criminal mind. Each tale, ranging from 'The Shadow of the Rope's' romantically entangled murder mystery to the compelling survival adventure of 'Stingaree: A Voice in the Wilderness', offers a distinct flavor of intrigue. The literary style of Hornung is characterized by its vivid characterizations and intricate plotting, while his work is poised within the literary context of classic British detective fiction, offering readers a blend of psychological complexity and thrilling plot twists. Ernest William Hornung was a prolific writer who is best known for creating the character A.J. Raffles, the genteel master-thief and counterpart to his brother-in-law, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. Having lived through the turn of the century, Hornung was influenced by the rapid social changes and morbid fascination with crime. His participation as a war poet in WWI may have further honed his sensitivity to the darker aspects of the human psyche, which is evident in these stories' explorations of crime, morality, and redemption. This anthology is a must-read for aficionados of classic detective stories who crave intellectually stimulating puzzles paired with rich period detail. 'VINTAGE BRITISH MYSTERIES' will appeal to readers who delight in unraveling secretive behaviors nestled within a society that is at once rigidly structured and seething with undercurrents of rebellion and change. Hornung's fans and new readers alike will find in these pages a rewarding and tantalizing experience that speaks to both the intellect and the imagination.

Autorenporträt
Ernest William Hornung, commonly known as E. W. Hornung (1866-1921), was an English author and poet best known for creating the character A. J. Raffles, a gentleman thief in late Victorian England. Born in Middlesbrough, Hornung spent most of his youth in England before moving to Australia for his health. This experience down under provided material for his early literary efforts. Upon returning to England, Hornung began his writing career in earnest, drawing upon his travels and observations of contemporary society for inspiration. His foray into the world of crime fiction was markedly successful; 'Raffles', the mastermind behind 'The Amateur Cracksman' series, quickly became a beloved figure among readers seeking escapism through the charming facade of an antihero. Within 'VINTAGE BRITISH MYSTERIES - 6 Intriguing Brainteasers in One Premium Edition,' Hornung's literary prowess is on full display, encapsulating his penchant for complex characters and intricate plotting which has made him a staple in the genre. His works not only reflected the nuances of Edwardian England but also the underlying tensions and contradictions of its social fabric. Despite being somewhat overshadowed by his brother-in-law Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Hornung's contributions to the mystery genre remain distinguished by their distinctive blend of suspense, wit, and psychological insight.
