Omar Toson, the writer of this book, is considered one of the figures of the modern Egyptian renaissance. Although he belonged to the royal family, he was busy with the issues of his nation. His interests were many and varied between field and theoretical research. At the field level, the man is credited with discovering many ancient Egyptian antiquities (about fifty-two monasteries in addition to the head of the statue of Alexander the Great). This field experience of the author helped him to be distinguished in the field of historical and archaeological research. Theoretical, as his theoretical writings were distinguished by their depth and novelty due to their connection to Toson's field experience. Among these works is the book "Wadi al-Natrun, its monks and its monasteries," in which the author presents the history of this valley and its monasteries, the Orthodox patriarchs who lived in it, and the condition of its monks before the Arab conquest of Egypt.
