Autorenporträt
Howard Birnstihl, a teacher of art and film before becoming an award winning photographer specializing in candid sociological themes turned his hand to writing some twenty five years ago. A prolific writer of novels on a wide range of subjects, often with an emphasis on film, he has also produced two volumes of his photographs.

Previous publications include the thriller The Colour of Film Noir, a study of the use of symbolic colour in movies plus a colour photographic compilation Rearview Mirror [with poems by Tony London]. Soon to be published is his B & W photographic study of Australians in the 70's and 80's, Is 'e an Aussie?'

In 2017, along with a few fellow greyhairs, Howard started Spikeback Books enabling a wide range of Australia's more gifted senior writers to enter the marketplace.
