If there is a common theme between my action stories and my adult romances, it's that in both genres, I like to feature ordinary people dealing with extraordinary circumstances. So, no ex-SAS heroes trying to live in a world that just does not understand them; and no tragically flawed billionaires learning to love again.

But what about that stranger you see on the tube who gives off a sense of being more alive than other passengers? Why are they like that? Or the unremarkable person desperate to share an earth-shattering secret that no one would believe? Those are the people I want to write about.

I've surprised friends who have read both types of story. 'You're all guns and roses, mate,' was one off-hand comment on one of my crime thrillers where romance blossoms between two people trying to stop terrorists blowing up Heathrow Airport. In my erotic romances, I take time to discover the lives of the people involved before the action starts. `It's all very Mills and Bone,' said a relative who couldn't resist adding a wink.

I'm not unhappy with either of these descriptions... but judge for yourself.
