'When Shame Kisses Scandal' is a beautiful play. A poetic piece which pictures scenarios of a king, Asirifi, whose immoral act when a prince resulted in an act of incest committed by his 'unknown' son with his (the king's) wife. Upon recognising that his previous spurious act of infidelity had led to his unrecognised son committing incest with his own wife, he fell (head-long) dead in order to save him from a palpable embarrassment.
This evil act to save him from shame is a confirmation of a Philippine proverb, "A guilty conscience needs no accuser."
A dramatisation of the psychological consequences of unbridled treachery, ambition and arrogance that ultimately leads to the cataclysmic death of a stubborn king.
This book also pictures a scenario where a 'culture of silence' in a community resulted in dictatorship and oppression.
