Mortimer Menpes was a British painter, illustrator and printmaker. He created a form of colour etching, as well as publishing 'War Impressions', the first book to reproduce coloured art works faithfully, making him a pioneer of illustrated art books. Menpes had been a pupil of Whistler, having met him in Brittany in 1880. Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Whistler, as well as one hundred and thirty-four plates in colour and black and white. - Print ed.
