In February, 2020, a widower contacted a mid-60s woman on a senior dating website. His profile stated he was 71. His photo seemed to confirm his age. They met for coffee at a Starbucks. She hardly recognized him; he didn't look much like his photo. He said he liked to cruise because in the Navy he had loved the ships he was on.
She asked, "Were you in the Viet Nam War?" She knew that most men in their early 70s who served were in that war. He said, "No. the Korean War." Bingo, she knew he wasn't 71. He said he was 81. But, when she did the math in her head, she knew he had to be in his 80s, even mid-to-late 80s. He admitted he was a lonely widower and the only way to meet younger women was to lie about his age.
That's just one reason for women to be leery and careful when dating widowers. Read the book for more.
