Paul Draper is one the first fathers of California's boutique winery world (Ridge Vineyards) and one of the first fathers of fine Zinfandel, as well as single vineyard designation. In the early part in the life of this book I sent it to Paul Draper to see what he thought about it. I called him up and this is what he said to me over the phone, "That is the best book I've ever read about wine, but lordy, lordy, does it need editing." Paul Draper is one the first fathers of California's boutique winery world (Ridge Vineyards) and one of the first fathers of fine Zinfandel, as well as single vineyard designation. In the early part in the life of this book I sent it to Paul Draper to see what he thought about it. I called him up and this is what he said to me over the phone, "That is the best book I've ever read about wine, but lordy, lordy, does it need editing." Well... thanks to his encouragement it got edited. A review by Dr. E.C. Krupp - From 1974 to the present, Edwin Krupp has been the director of Griffith Observatory, the most visited public observatory in the world. He is also an internationally famous archaeoastronomer, which interprets the ancient 'observatories' and the information they rendered. As such, he has been to more sacred places than any other human; past, present, and I'll bet future. "I like Bruce Rector's Seven Principles and fluidity of his application of them, as demonstrated by this book. Although I have been drinking Bruce Rector's artfully crafted wines for decades, I had no idea the philosophical foundation of his technique is leveraged by a personal extraction of meaning from remarkable thinkers who actually had very little to say about wine. My brain is teased by his reliance on Newton, Goethe, and Pasteur to illustrate the concepts that inhabit his perspective on winemaking. He transforms them into complex and intoxicating avatars of process, vision, and technique. In this book, wine and the means by which it is created and consumed reveal an unexpected structure of experience. I have consumed my share of wine, but I don't know a lot about it. Of course, I do know what I like. I am familiar with the experience. Bruce Rector's Wine Through Another Glass helps reveal to us tasters why we know what we like, and it complements the menu with a theory of winemakers' visions of quality and grandeur. To appreciate fully the value of this effort, I recommend sitting down at the table with this book and another glass of great wine."
