Cecil John Charles Street, known as John Street, was born on 3 May 1884 in Gibraltar. He was a British Army major, crime fiction novelist, and a key figure during World War I. Street started his military career as an artillery officer. During the war, he became involved with MI7, the British propaganda department, where he helped shape public opinion through his work. His service in the military earned him several honors, including the Military Cross and the Order of the British Empire (OBE). After the war, Street transitioned to writing crime fiction, achieving success with his novels. He was married twice: first to Hyacinth Maud Kirwan, and later to Eileen Annette Waller. Street lived the later years of his life in Eastbourne, United Kingdom, where he passed away on 8 December 1964 at the age of 80. His work as both a soldier and a writer contributed to his lasting legacy in both military and literary circles.
