This title was first published in 2000. Based on an EU and ODA-funded project, this book examines contemporary unemployment and poverty in Russia and the origins, aims, implementation and effects of Russian social policies to date. The findings are situated within a discussion of the future of the Russian welfare state and the policy options emerging in the context of current social conflicts.
