His career collapsed in 2011 when several bloggers exposed that Hari had plagiarized and fabricated a lot of the information in his work, among other ethical infractions. Disgraced, Hari left The Independent in 2012, reinventing himself as an author. He released his first book, Chasing the Scream: The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs, in 2015. Since then, Hari has published two more books, the latest being the New York Times bestseller, Stolen Focus: Why You Can't Pay Attention and How to Think Deeply Again.
