He was struck and touched by many injustices in the way patients with aphasia and dementia are being approached in todays world. The lack of communication has a serious impact on the victims (abnormals, disabled) than ordinary people can imagine. I hope many people will enjoy my suggestions. I also hope much more research will be conducted. I hope these investigations will focus more on man with all his capabilitiesincluding his ability to communicateand on an object!

Steef Hoogendam was social worker until his retirement. He had contact with a secondary teacher, Nora van Riet, someone who preferred demand-oriented assistance. This book about aphasia, Young & Old, followed one of his last motivations to write a book, perhaps the very last.
