Martin Alan Greenberg is a retired State University of New York (SUNY) criminal justice professor and the former president of the Auxiliary Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York, Inc. He recently served as the president of the Virginia Association of Criminal Justice Educators as well as the chair of the Section on Security and Crime Prevention within the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. At age 18, he became, perhaps, the youngest school aide in a NYC high school. His recollections of that time period were recorded in an oral history available online at https://emuseum.jfk.org/collections. One of his earliest teaching assignments was at Hawaii Community College, a subdivision of the University of Hawaii at Hilo. A number of his students were “police cadets” with the Hawaii County PD. He has also served as an acting court clerk and senior court offcer in New York City and as a probation offcer in Tompkins County, NY. Furthermore, he was the Executive Offcer (a volunteer position) for the New York City PD’s Queens Area Auxiliary Patrol Force which included more than 1000 auxiliary police offcers.
He is currently active in a variety of community associations, including the Schenectady NAACP and Niskayuna Rotary chapters. He earned a PhD in Criminal Justice from the City University of New York and JD from New York Law School. Dr. Greenberg is the author of eight books dealing with professional and volunteer roles in the feld of public safety.
He is married to Dr. Ellen Carol Wertlieb, Director Emerita, Wellness and Support Services, SUNY Schenectady County Community College.
He is currently active in a variety of community associations, including the Schenectady NAACP and Niskayuna Rotary chapters. He earned a PhD in Criminal Justice from the City University of New York and JD from New York Law School. Dr. Greenberg is the author of eight books dealing with professional and volunteer roles in the feld of public safety.
