Halku, the poor farmer somehow manages to save three rupees to buy a new blanket which he needs while guarding his field in the dark winter nights. But Sahna, his landlord comes to his doorstep and asks for the money that Halku owes him. The winter nights were so cold that without a blanket there was no way he could sleep out in the open. Munni, his wife, was reluctant to give that money. But what would Halku choose? Dying in the dark winter night without a blanket or listening to the landlord's abuses? This has been translated from the famous original Hindi story called "Poos Ki Raat" written by Munshi Premchand. He is one of the most celebrated writers of the Indian subcontinent, and is regarded as one of the foremost Hindustani writers of the early twentieth century.
